INTRODUCTION:
Fernieside
FC is keen to support a new Soccer 4’s initiative and would hope with the
help and assistance of the SFA South East Regional Manager Michael Sharp,
ESSDA and the SFA this initiative will come to fruition.
The
East of Scotland Soccer Development Association (ESSDA) who currently run
Soccer 7’s, will not introduce Soccer 4’s till season 2008/2009 and this
initiative has the full backing of their spokesman Dave Norris.
Therefore,
Fernieside FC, are offering Clubs the opportunity to take part in a new
Soccer 4’s programme starting in February 2008. The programme would start on
Saturday 16 February and would run for a total of 12 weeks up to Saturday 24
May.
The
boys and girls playing in Soccer 4’s would be born in the years 2000 and
2001. At this moment in time, there are youngsters born in those years who
currently play Soccer 7’s and it will be left up to the individual coaches
of teams to decide what youngsters play Soccer 4’s.
The
plan is that Gilmerton Park (Fernieside FC home park) would be turned into a
‘Soccer 4’s’ centre on a Saturday morning from 10.00 to 11.00am. Teams would
play 6 x 8minute games during that hour, allowing 2 minutes for rest/drinks
in between games.
The
matter of affiliation fees to ESSDA and SYFA have still to be discussed and
will be addressed in the weeks to come.
Each
team would pay a fee each week of £5.00 to take part and that money would be
used to purchase the sets of Soccer 4’s goals that the SFA would supply.
(The sets of goals cost around £100 each). Any money that is left at the end
of the programme will be used for those teams who took part in the
initiative to purchase Soccer 4’s goals for their own Club.
